  • Sep 22 - Registration Data Backup & Decisions

    1. We took the Registration system offline today as we came across a issue, besides it shutting down. Looks like we are going to have it online till September 28th and then shut it down so we can organize the data to make a smoother checkin at the Camporee. We will be calling some of you to help clear up some double registrations that we see in the system. We want to do this to avoid problems at Check-in at the Camporee. We are trying all that we can do to make getting in as fast as possible. If you can help us by paying in full online before September 28th, it will make getting through check-in faster.

    2. Boy Scout and Venturing Event Signup. We are also extending those dates to September 28th.

    3. Boy Scout and Venturing 'LEAD THE RACE' Scoring registration. We are going to pull the data from the Online System to register your crew or patrols into the camporee scoring system. So make sure your unit & city or unit & city & patrol names are correct... Yes Troops we need patrol names... What ever you enter will end up to be the name at the event... Also we have seen a lot of units that did not enter the Unit Number and Unit City. Since we have many different councils attending we just cannot idenitfy your unit by number only. So please edit your registration and use the format "number city". Otherwise you will be taking time to edit that at the event. Save time do it now! We are also extending modification dates to September 28th.

    4. More stuff being delivered. Wow, I got the 'Spectacular in a box' today. It was like gifts on your birthday. I can't wait for you to see all this stuff... So Cool.

Sep 12 - Informal Mini Meetings
Tonight the miscellaneous staff members met to discuss various topics. There was no set agenda, just people coming together to work out issues and follow up on others. We have a New layout map. Lots more detail and very subject to change. Reason for change? Well when you get out there you will see why it is so hard to plan a layout. The place is absolutely huge. It is so hard to judge scale of an area. You try to guess what things will look like with tents and trailers and stages etc all in this big open place.

Wow, it was a climb. the Hairpin turn is great, really a nice banked turn. I want to stress that all Boy Scouts, Venturers, Boy Scout Leaders, & Venturing Leader should bring a bike. It is really a long way from the Boy Scout & Venturing camping areas out to the Older Scout Activity area. Please, please make it easy on you... Bring your Bike.

Aug 30 - Wow, What a week since the last update!
Let me tell you about it. Since the Camporee Staff meeting last week. We have had Good News and Bad News. We lost part of the Spectacular, but as things go, the replacement we found is Better. It was a MAJOR set back... but overall I think it just got BIGGER & Better! We had a review by the Speedway Staff of the whole program. They had a few good questions. We lost a few programs, due to their corporate rules, but they suggested some replacements too. Since their race season is over... they are now in HIGH gear to work with us. And I cannot even keep up with all their requests. We have a meeting at the track next week. We are going over the Physical requirements. So lots of work this weekend to nail down the program locations to our best ability. Tent Locations, Power requirement, Stage locations, bathroom locations, first aid locations, camping maps! They even want to know the layout of the mountain bike course. This is now getting really exciting and really REAL! Last night we had a review of the Cub Scout, Boy Scout Program, & Midway Interaction in detail to make sure we were not missing anything Major. We should be posting more info on those programs in the coming week. As far as new programs... we might be adding a few... that we already got approved, we just have to work the details before we announce them. Overall... We are in fine shape to deliver a high quality program.

Wow it was hot, but I was prepared with tons of fluid and pacing the riding. Tonight I rode 30 miles on the dirt roads. For a total of 302 miles so far this year. A little cross training from the trail riding builds some extra strength for the hills. Over the last week I have learned much on how the Camporee is coming together. The staff is having a BIG review meeting at the end of the month. This will be very exciting as we review to make sure nothing is being missed. We also moved further forward on the Scuba Experience. Remember to pack your swimsuit!

Also got a another Contract in hand for part of the Spectacular.

    July 9 - Cross Training
So you all know by now that I mountain bike to stay in shape. But I have found out that a little cross training goes a long ways to help the mountain biking. I take the bike out on the dirt roads and ride some distance. This helps with my breathing and endurance. Now the next time I hit the trail, I will be stronger for the hills. Today I rode 26 miles in a little over 2 hours. Yes, I drank almost 100oz of Gatorade and took a few snack breaks. What are you doing to get ready to 'Lead The Race'?

July 4 - Happy Independence Day

What about the Build and Launch Rocketry Experience ( Cub Scouts too! ). You will have to pre-order your Rocket & Launch time. Sure you can wait in line at the event for a cancellation or a empty slot. If you don't have to wait in line, you can be doing something else... More FUN! Trying to do a little catch up on the website. I added a preview gallery for the FormulaOne Road Track. This is a 1.8 mile long road course twisting throught the grounds of MIS. Remember MIS is in the Irish hills, so don't expect this to be flat. The Banked Hair Pin Turn is really cool too. Also I added photos I took of the MIS Pace Car sitting in front of the MIS Adminstration Building. This is where I go to meet with the MIS Adminstration for the planning of the Camporee. Watch for more preview photos soon. Short Cut to the Preview Gallery HERE!

You better be... for we are about to announce a lot of new stuff about the Camporee. We always announce the NEW stuff on the email list first so that those supporting the Camporee get first dibs. So get signed up now.... Watch for the Email early this month!

June 11 - New Units on the email list
WOW, this is a cool little fact! We are getting on a average of a NEW UNIT signing up for the email update, once every other day! I just thought you might want to know. Hey that is 155 units get the Email every Month... and if each brought only 20 people, that would be 3100 people at the Camporee... Cool I say!

June 10 - On the Road Again
Did you notice a gap in the Status Updates? Well I was on the road, actually vacation. I headed to the mountains for a few days and to the ocean. Did you know that the mountain biking helped to prepare me to hike in the mountains! Yes, preparing myself for the events at the Camporee are helping me do more everyday. But you would never guess how many car haulers and trucks related to racing I saw driving through North Carolina. Well I just wanted to let you know I am back, and while I was gone progress was still being made by the staff.

May 17 - Are you Registered Yet?
While I have been out getting some miles in on my mountain bike, there has been a lot going on with the rest of the staff. We had some great promotion these last few weeks: Dorchester International Camporee in Canada, District Roundtables, OA Conclave, Venturing BOSS Training, BALOO Training, HT District Training Day, Mom & Me Campout, & Flyers by you passing them on! The Physical Arrangement team had a team meeting to go over the BIG list of equipment. We will be updating our needs on this Site soon with that. We got some more people submitting volunteer requests to help get some of the activities covered. More Pre-registrations have been pouring in. We now got 2 perfect scores on the Troop Trivia Contest. The Midway got some more confirmations on activities from outside groups... watch for Updates on these. By the way I am at a total of 40.8 miles so far this year on my mountain bike. The Top Prizes for the Troop and Crew 'Lead the race' Competition are being started... These are going to be cool. We have also got some more donations for door prizes for early registrations. We got a BIG donation for a Barcode Printer and Labels to be used for the Scoring System from Intermec. Some cool collectables are coming together, along with patch & T-shirt designs. There was a meeting last week to put even more detail into the overall layout, watch for postings of this soon. Till Next time... Get Pre-Registered!

May 5 - What are you doing to be prepared to 'LEAD THE RACE'?
One of my favorite ways to exercise is to take my mountain bike out to one of the local state parks and ride the trails. I went out last Wednesday to Island Lake State Park and rode the BLUE trail which is 9.3 miles in 1.5 hours. Then on Friday I was there again with a friend whose son is in Northville Troop 755. I rode the YELLOW Trail which is 6 miles in 55 minutes and then rode the BLUE TRAIL Again with him. Mountain Biking like Hiking has rules and skills to make it more enjoyable. Both allow you to get out in the woods, enjoy nature, and get some exercise. My goal is to get out on the bike at least twice a week. Last Year I completed 400 miles with most rides being around 7 miles. I plan to eat good, ride hard, and build my skills to be in shape for the Camporee. Does your unit have a plan on how you are going to prepare to 'LEAD THE RACE'? In the packets we suggest advancement related to the camporee. You don't need to earn all of these to have a good time. But the literature that goes along with these advancements can enhance your program and prepare you to 'LEAD THE RACE'. Email up ideas on how your unit is planning to 'LEAD THE RACE' we would like to hear about it.

May 4 - Let me Catch you up
A lot of little things have been going on over the last two weeks. People have been volunteering to help in Health and Safety, Staff Food, and Registration. We have done tons of promotion at events over the last few weeks. If your were at Conclave, BOSS, BALOO, C391 Good Morning Venturing Outing, OLS, Council Program Meeting, Three Fires Spring Camporee, Chief Lenape Trails Spring Camporee, or Huron Trails Training Day, you would have heard about the Camporee. A big thank you to all the people that helped get all these promotions out over the last two weeks. The Staff will be at Running Waters Roundtable this week... So look for us there. Work has begun on a special collectable for the camporee... all I will say is we are working with a graphic artist on it. Letters are going out to local fire departments for support of the Health and Safety team. We had a meeting with the inflatable company. There will be several small meetings coming up on Camporee Layout at MIS. Progress is good on the Saturday Vendor Lunch. Once we get Full Confirmation we will post Menu's and prices. We have a small core kitchen staff assembled for planning staff meals. There have been quite a few phone calls and emails with Great Questions... We added the new answers to the Frequently Asked Questions page. The Staff had a big meeting to go over the plans for the FINAL FIVE MONTHS. These included everything from recruiting goals to when pieces will fall together. The April Email updates went out.... Were you on the Email List along with 178 other people? Just think if each of the 178 people came with 20 people that would be 3560 people total... Now that is cool! Discussions on the Trading Post went on over the last two weeks. The Flyer went out for the Staff Potluck Dinner in June. Overall... Great Two Weeks.

April 1 - Happy April Fools
Yesturday, a lot of the Foolish staff went out to MIS for about four hours and crawled all over the areas of MIS that we have access to. I took a movie of us driving on the Road Track, that was cool! I will be posting that movie in the preview gallery. Yes the hair pin curve is banked. I got a bunch of pictures of the campgrounds and the HUGE stands. Some of us FOOLS walked instead of drove around the areas, yes it is big, I wish I took my bike. Reminder: Boy Scouts and Venturers BRING YOUR BIKES. The Cubs will not need Bikes as their program will all real close together ( On purpose! ). I also got some really cool photos of all the BIG MIS promo material in the FAN plaza. The new PACE Car is at the track... But it was on the other side of one of the fences... So I will get a photo of that next time. I took a climb up in the stands, like you will have a chance to do... Yes they are HUGE, I got some photos of that too. From a layout stand point our physical arrangement Chair and Health and Safety Chair, drove all over the place and checked it all out. The Cub Program people figured a bunch of space stuff out. The Mountain Bike Group took a look at all the hills we did not know we had. We even found some nice gravel paths for mountain biking. We took a look at some areas for the zip line. The Scuba Crew was out to do more measurements of the area. The Camp Chief had a field day, since we are in the Irish Hills the Cub Family Campground has some hills. The Boy Scout and Venturing Camp is relatively flat.

Mar 28, 2007 - Council Executive Board Meeting
I just got back from presenting the state of the Camporee at the Council Executive Board Meeting. Got a few more contacts and gave a very positive report. Only 6 months left to go... and the big stuff is done. Wait till you see what got announced to me that will be donated for the Camporee at the meeting. This is going to be really cool.

Mar 27, 2007 - Staff going to MIS this weekend to work on layout
Well here we go again. Out to the Speedway to layout where the activities are going to go. Just to let you know... It is so big, that it is hard to get a feel for how much space things will take. There will be about 20 of us. The Camp Chief along with the Physical Arrangements chair will be trying to lay out sub camp areas. The Mountain Bike group will take a lay of the land for some fun riding. I plan on taking my bike out with me to see where we can start laying out the bicycle races. Plus, take a spin on the road track. The Midway Chair can't wait to get out there. He has ideas of all the Sub Theme areas for the midway. The Adult Program team will be eyeing areas for the cooking contest and adult oasis. Cub Fun day activities like archery and bb guns need a protected back drop. So they will be up against one of the edges. Room for religous services. Lunch Crowd. Stages for the Bands, Place for Robotics. This is going to be crazy. The only thing we know for sure is where Scuba will be, if we pull off all the requirements. Health & Safety has a big job trying to get a grasp on security check points and traffic flow. We have to leave room for overnight parking and day parking. Venturing will be looking out for a nice area for capture the flag and other cool big area games. Then the Secret Saturday Night Project... Where do we put that monster?

Mar 26, 2007 - We have 17,000 Gallons of water for Scuba
We got the water... Now we need 400 lbs of propane to heat the water. Hey this is a huge project but we are getting there. Thank you to all of you that have been helping to try to get this figured out. If we can get the stuff on our end. And they feel it is good on their end. Then we will have one terrific activity here.

Mar 25, 2007 - Did you receive the Monthly Camporee Update Email?
If the answer is NO, then you are already missing out on the inside scoop about the camporee. The Monthly email update will give you inside information that is not here in the updates. Actually, if you answered Yes... Then you already know what is not being told here. The rest of the Scouting Public that is not signed up are instantly behind on the special perks. So go get signed up now: Email Updates. If you thought you were signed up, but did not get an email; please send an email to the Camporee Staff email address and let us know. We know there are 10 people out there that signed up with a bad email address.

Mar 24, 2007 - Activity Status and Gallery Updated
New Previews have been added to the Gallery. See what Typical Camporee Sub Camps look like. Also we received photos and video from the Education & Prevention of Impaired Driving (EPIC) Program. And then we added a few photos and short video of the Screaming Eagles Band.

    Mar 18, 2007 - Band Auditions
We are very pleased to announce that we have two bands that will be playing on Saturday of the Camporee. The first is an Irish Band names The Irish Mist. A good sing along band. They even played Puff the Magic Dragon. The second is the for the Classic Rock Crowd. They are called the Screaming Eagles Band. They should provide some nice entertainment during afternoon. The stage pieces are being donated by Fantasee Lighting.

Mar 13, 2007 Later - We have a suitable location for a Scuba Pool!
We just got back from Michigan International Speedway. We specifically went out to measure the pravilion that might be big enough to hold the Scuba Pool. Some of the requirements for the Scuba Demonstration are:

    2. 17,000 Gallons of Water - Donate

    4. 250 People a day for 2 days to experience the Hands-On (In-water) Experience

Mar 2, 2007 - Website Updates, Information Packets, & More
Updated the list of Interested units and individuals. Behind the scenes the Registration Section of the Website is taking shape. We are following the trend used by the Dorchester International Camporee for registration. The Information Packets are getting closer to completion, the list is getting shorter. Have you heard we are trying to get Scuba... well it is still not IN or OUT. On Monday we took a little trip to take more photos and videos of the RC Cars, plus to talk more details. This Off Road RC Car Racing is going to be BIG for the youth and the adults. Yes, I got to drive them, wait till you see the new Videos I will be putting in the Preview Gallery. Plus they want to offer some prizes from top RC Driving at the Camporee. Yes free day passes at the Washtenaw RC Raceway. We got a contact this week from a Scouter that works at GM, he is interested getting organized the 'Learn About Car Engines' idea, on the Activity Status page. The early Registration PERKS are getting better. Of course you will have to wait to find out what cool things are being donated for units that register early, hint Racing. But if you sign up now for Email Updates you know as soon as the packets are released.

    Feb 23, 2007 - Flurry of Activity

Call #1: The first call came in from Richard Petty Driving Experience. I told them we were planning a camporee at MIS for the same weekend that they will be there on the weekend of October 5-7, 2007. I asked them what we could do together to really show off the track. I am not going to tell you all the exciting things they said, but up close and personal would sum it up. They were very excited of the opportunity. I should here back from them in a week or two. I will post those results in the Monthly update email... so sign up now! Sign up here

Email #1: We got a confirmation that the AAA Driving Simultor will be at the Camporee. I also have photos of the AAA Driving Simultor to post in the gallery.

Email #2: Confirmation on the #6 AAA Race Car. Also that AAA Motorsports will be sending us promotion photos of the Car.

Photo Shoot: We are going behind the scenes Monday to Photo the RC cars from RC Product Designs on the Off-Road Dirt track. Watch for those photos in the Gallery.

Call #2: We got a call from Coleman Camping. They are excited to see what can come from this relationship. They mentioned about bringing one of everything.

Call #3: A very very excited call from Track Time Driving School. MIS is their home track.

Cool Surprise: We got further on one of cool surprises that we have been talking about for a while. We will have to wait and see what comes of it. But I think everyone will be impressed if it comes through.

Email #4: I got a email with contacts to some retired Race Car Drivers that we wanted to invite to the camporee.

Google Positioning: We did it. We got #1 in Google searches for the following: 'mis camporee', 'council camporee', 'gstc camporee', and 'Great Sauk Trail Council Camporee'. I am still trying for just plain old 'camporee' but that will be a hard one.

Email #5: We got our official contacts to the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Sounds like they are interested in helping plan events for the camporee.

    Feb 19, 2007 - New Flyer #10
It is here! A Flyer of all flyers. Get the low down all on one flyer. Pass on what is so special about this Camporee to your units. Brand New Graphics. List of Activities. Lots of excitement. Get it on the Program Download Page.

    Feb 11, 2007 - Massive Website Update
We added a bunch of new sections to the website to prepare for the Information Packets being release next month. The Program Section was added to support downloads for each individual program. The Donation section is also new, this is our wish list of things we need to support the program. We Are Interested is also a new section to show who is on the email list.

Feb 2, 2007 - Saturday Service Club Lunch
We just gained another staffer to handle the coordination of our plan to offer a Saturday Lunch for Purchase. Knowing the number of people that will attend this Camporee, especially for the Cub Fun day on Saturday, we opted to invite service clubs to have lunch available. This will also free up the staff cooks to enjoy the camporee, during the day.

    Jan 30, 2007 - Activity Status Online
Check this out we are putting our current planning status Online, updated at least once a month. Click here to see it now: Activity Status. Yes, we are looking for more ideas, suggestions on some, and some volunteers to help make them possible.

    Jan 24, 2007 - We have a layout
Wow... We had 5 Meetings this month.

On January 16th, the Midway group got together to talk about how to handle this huge piece of program. They got a vice-chair that will actually be responsible for the Midway on the weekend of the Camporee. Layout Ideas were discussed of where to put what and how to handle the flow of people through the area. The Midway group is also developing a real interesting evening program.

Also on January 16th the Boy Scout Program group met. They are working on some really cool ideas. These are BIG program pieces covering a lot of ground... LOTS! The Boy Scout program will also cover the early morning activities for all.

On January 17th the Cub Program met to discuss what events we can use from the Cub Fun Day last year. Also what new things we can do, because of the BIG area we have at MIS.

Also on January 17th the Adult program group met. They good a GREAT set of plans started to offer some real different programs for the Adults attending. They will also support some of the Midway programs and some of the evening activities.

Now for the Big Meeting. This evening all the chairs met to figure out how to put all these activities together at the camporee. We actually got a layout in two hours. After rearranging things 3 times. Our Health and Safety chair almost had a heart attack everytime we told him another program piece we had to fit in. Of course these pieces were just another incredible safety related cool activity. The Guide to Safe Scouting is getting worn out from all the references to it. We had birdeye photos of MIS on the projector to get a 'like you are there feeling'.

Camporee Information Packets: Looks like next week we will be getting together preliminary revision 3 of all the packets. We can now describe most of the Boy Scout Program, Venturing, Adult, and Cub Scout Program. The Midway is so vast that we will most likely have live updates on the website versus trying to describe everything in the packet. There are over 150 different activities currently on the Midway list. And everyday one idea keeps leading to another.

Currently the Cub Family camp is across the pedestrian bridge from the midway on the northern half. The Staff Camp is immediatly North of the Midway. To the East of here is the Venturing Camp. The four Boy Scout Sub Camps are to the North of the Staff and Venturing Camps. The Midway is going to be All things that will help you to 'LEAD THE RACE'. The Midway will also be the point to catch the tour group to learn more about track operations ( with cars on the track ). The Day Parking is being planned to enter from the south end of the Midway. The Cub Program will be just south of the Cub Family Camp. The Venturing Program will be EVERYWHERE... Yes, we mean EVERYWHERE... You will see soon. The Curvy track to the east of the main track is the Formula One track. This will be the focus area for Boy Scout Activities. Yes it is a long ways from the Boy Scout Camp. But that is where bicycles come in. Remember we are planning on using the MIS Trams to provide access for all.

    More Hints:
    5. A space of 1000' x 1000' required just north of the Midway.
    6. Venturing will be EVERYWHERE!!!
    7. SAND
    8. Lots of Air.

Enough hints for now. We will tell you more details soon.

Jan 8, 2007 - It is Starting To Roll
We just got a few new staffers, one in the Boy Scout Sub Camp and a Religous Chair. Meet the Staff. The information packets are still in their preliminary phase but we are on Revision 2 of all the packets. The packets are starting to look like something that represents a fantastic event. We currently have a Cub Day Program Packet, Cub Family camping Packet, Boy Scout Packet, and Venturing Packet. There will also be a Staff Packet and a Vendor Packet.

Vendor Packet? Yes we are going to have a lot of special guests that will be putting on awesome interactive displays. We will give you a few hints on a few of them.

    Hints:
    1. 8 - 20 AMP Circuits for one activity.
    2. Large amounts of Dirt.
    3. A Tent at least 40 feet x 70 feet.
    4. Six people to help set it up.

Enough hints for now. We will tell you more details soon.

Dec 30, 2006 - A whole bunch of stuff going on
Well, lets start off to say there has been a lot of little things going on behind the scenes this month for the camporee.

A area that has been lacking as of late with the camporee has been the vice-chair position. Well as of this week, I can say I overfilled that position. I got two great people to work together to be Vice Co-Chairs. This is really key since the Vice Chairs will be running the weekend operation. The Camporee Chair is in charge of setting up the weekend. I wish the line was really drawn that well in the sand, but this helps ensure that there are enough eyes overlooking the camporee.

If you did not know the staff have their own website to help keep up on what is happening. A new addition to that this past month has been what is called a wiki. Yeah funny name, but what it is, is a web page that any staff member can change. This is really great for sharing ideas, since we are spread all across the council.

We also got a great person from Chief Lenape Trails to head up the participation team. This is the person in charge of taking care of everyone as they prepare for the camporee. Their team will be making sure all units know about the camporee. And then at the camporee be in charge of registration. This is be a pretty big job since we are going to be spread all across the grounds of MIS.

Some areas of detail that we have been focusing on for the last month is the unanswered questions about the information packet. These include how to handle lunch on Saturday. How to do pre-registration. Exact timings of the weekend schedule. We got a lot of ideas on all three. But now have to get the exact details worked out. We are still on track to get the Information Packets out for the End of March 2007. But hope to have them for March Roundtables.

Promotion: I know we are getting the word out. Each month the Camporee Chair has been visiting a different districts roundtable. We also had a article in the last Challenge. And a Council Wide email should go out the first of the year. Watch your expresso for Flyer #10 that will be out in the next month.

Unitl next time: Happy New Year!

    Nov 21, 2006 - Core Staff Meeting
    1.Staff Additions
2.Goal for the January Meeting is to have the Information Packets ready for Review.
3.Cub Scout Program Report: The Cub Program Team has a good crew of people and they have a good list of activities started.
4.Boy Scout Program Report: The team coming together. They have a nice start at a list.
5.Venturing Program Report: Several crew members from several different crews discussed activity ideas that the youth want to have for the event. Ideas ranged from a Road Rally to a Talent Show.
6.Midway Program Report: A lot of contacts have been started. Example of some of them: AAA Driving Simulator, Arca Racing, Army Climbing Wall, RC Racing, Battle Bots, Bomb Sniffing Dog, Car And Bike Show, Daimler Chrysler Formula One, Dog Sled Races, Driver Meet And Greet, High Power Rocketry, MIS Pace Car, Michigan Mountain Biking Association, Model Rocket Display, Model Train Display, Radio Controlled Planes, Soap Box Derby.
7.Adult Program Report: good start with a team of people and ideas like: Cooking contest, Tricycle Race, Oasis, and training.
8.Physical Arrangements Report: Report of sightings after the tour of MIS. Emphasize how big the place is, and how hard it is to get a feel for the amount of room each location is. We need a big map the size of the promo board to start laying out our use of the facility.
9.Finance Report: review of the November 1st Finance meeting
10.Health and Safety: Reported on contacts and the type of facilities we might need for first aid.
11.Publicity Report: Display of the Promo board and handed out copies of the flyers to people going to different functions to do promotions. The promotion schedule was also updated.

Nov 10, 2006 - Promotion, Recruiting, Website Update, First Layout Map, and explanation
Did you see the new display board at University of Scouting? Did you get flyers at Roundtable? The staff is growing fast now! We are at a total count of 36. We are now filling in the last of the core staff positions. And now are filling out the branches of the tree. Check out some new areas on the website. Pretty soon the there will be some new areas focusing on the different areas of the program. Currently the Cub Family camp is across the pedestrian bridge from the midway. The Boy Scout Camp is to the North of the Midway. And the Venturing Camp is to the East of the Boy Scout Camp. The Midway is going to be 'All things racing'. The Midway will also be the point to catch the tour group to learn more about track operations ( with cars on the track ). The Curvy track to the east of the main track is the Formula One track. This will be the focus area for Boy Scout Activities. Yes it is a long ways from the Boy Scout Camp. But that is where bicycles come in. Now did you notice the location of the Venturing Camp, kinda far from everything! Looks like that should be pretty good for the crews. Remember we are planning on using the MIS Trams to provide access for all.

Nov 1, 2006 - Camporee Budget Meeting in Dexter
At this meeting decisions were made on the camporee admission fees, Cub Family camping costs, and staff costs. Other items discussed were insurance, liability, Saturday Lunch, Program Costs, and support costs.

Oct 26, 2006 - Council Cub Program Meeting
The Camporee Chair attended this Council Meeting to get the review of the Cub Fun Day. The Cub Fun day activities will appear at the Council Camporee on October 5-7, 2007. There will also be other Cub Scout Activites at the Camporee.

Oct 24, 2006 - Program Staff Meeting in Tecumseh
The Camporee Chair attended to give all the program planning teams a perspective of where the camporee is and where it is heading. Summary of highlight points: The Theme for the Camporee is 'Lead the Race' which has emphasis on Leadership, Racing, Health, & Fitness. Basically the Schedule is still preliminary with just the basic structure of the camporee. Program Planning Time Line: Upcoming Promotions, Information Packet due out in March, Camporee in October. The Staff Website resources was discussed. The Strategy to provide the most program is to cross use of resources between programs and to use outside resources such as clubs and shops. We reviewed the areas we have at MIS our Host Site. Our guidelines for planning is the Guide to Safe Scouting We reviewed the proposed program listings that were submitted as program ideas. Program Worksheets which is a planning aid to help make sure we don't miss the little details of each event were reviewed. Other Program Resources were discussed Since MIS is our host we have to follow their rules on Corporate Sponsors, Sales of items. Also all contacts to MIS have to go through the Camporee Chair. Areas of Program Concerns: Safety: Bike, Track, Night, Trams, Rockets, Cars, Outside People Rules Health: Bathrooms, Water, Food, & First Aid Weather: Rain, Wind, Cold, Shelter Electricity: Locations, Cords, Generators

Oct 17, 2006 - Core Staff Toured the MIS Facility Today
Today the Core Staff met at the Michigan International Speedway to tour the facility with the Director of Operations. I must say we have tons of room for all the activities we are planning. Our biggest concern seems to be how to camp everybody in separate areas, but still not too far apart so that the walking distance is short. We looked at several possible places to put the stage for the show. We also drove the Road Course that we have. This is the separate 1.9-mile exterior road course. This road course was designed by Formula One great Stirling Moss. The road course goes over hills and around some really fun turns. It even goes around the pond, across the river raisin, and past the woods.

Oct 16, 2006 - New Core Staff member recruited & NARScouts Rocketry
Now we also have our Camp Chief for the Camporee. The Camp Chief will be in charge of all the campers.

The Camporee Staff was contacted by NARScouts Rocketry, this club offers programs to Scouting groups. They are based out of Ohio.

Oct 10, 2006 - New Flyer is ready for Download

Sept 20, 2006 - Host location Formally Announced
Yes Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is our official Host location. With plans for Future camporees being supported by the same host location.

Sept 19, 2006 - Michigan International Speedway (MIS) Meeting
Well after lots of emails with our host location we had our official first sitdown meeting at MIS. The meeting consisted of the Camporee Chair, the Professional Advisor, our MIS Liaison, the Council Executive, the Community Representive from MIS, the President of MIS, and the Director of Operations at MIS. We went over the proposal that we submitted to them and listened to what they had to say. Overall this is going to be better than I first thought. Of course there were compromises, but another benefit came out of this meeting, a longer relationship with them, than just this Camporee. We had some concerns with the walking distants between the possible venues at the speedway, but they took care of that issue. I think almost every activity that we proposed came back with a YES! We also found out about some physical locations that we can use that we did not know about. More Details will come out about this meeting in the next month as the Camporee Staff meets and makes formal announcements of the Camporee Plans.
